Addressing Food Security - Garden to Plate: A Community-Based Food Security Project

Community Centres SA’s Garden to Plate Project was funded by the State Government of South Australia and saw the creation of nine community gardens around South Australia.

It aimed to foster food security and sustainable living in South Australia. Nine Community Centres participated in this pilot project, each receiving resources such as raised garden beds, nutrient-rich soil, and a variety of seeds and plants, enabling them to cultivate diverse crops for a balanced community diet.

The project also inspired community participation and promotes sustainable lifestyles.

Post-harvest, cooking workshops were held at centres, teaching not only cooking but also healthy food choices and preservation techniques, using produce from the gardens.

Community Centres have contributed recipes to share which were inspired by the produce they grew, which you can find below the picture gallery.
