Strong Governance in Community Centres - Principles and Practice
Community Centres SA, in conjunction with Highwire Group, are presenting this training in four sessions.
Each session is a standalone topic, and attendance is not required at all sessions.
ALL SESSIONS WILL BE HELD ONLINE VIA ZOOM.

Session 1:

Good Governance and Decision Making
Who is this session for?
Board/Committee Members, Managers and Coordinators
Session Overview:
This session will explore the role of Boards and Management Committees in making good decisions and will be of interest for existing Board/Committee members and the staff who work with them. Boards may wish to attend together so they can workshop the learnings together!
Learn how to:
- Implement ethical, values driven decision making
- Identify the different roles for the Board/Committee and Management
- Implement communication structures and processes that support collaborative, timely and effective decision making
Session 2:

ASES accreditation - Preparing for Success
Who is this session for?
Session Overview:
This session is for community centres who may be working towards ASES accreditation, and also for those who already have accreditation but want to better understand the framework and how it can benefit them.
Board/Committee Members, Managers and Coordinators, staff and volunteers involved in ASES accreditation
Learn how to:
- Communicate the benefits of accreditation
- Engage and empower a range of stakeholders
- Implement a strengths-based approach to self-assessment
- Tell your story with the best evidence

Managing Risk and Compliance: requirements for community centres and discovering practical tools to improve
Who is this session for?
Board/Committee Members, Managers and Coordinators, Staff and Volunteers
Session Overview:
This session is to assist staff and management committees in understanding risk and compliance requirements for community centres and discovering practical tools to improve
Learn how to:
- Identify the key risks associated with governing a community centre
- Develop a risk management plan
- Develop a compliance calendar for ongoing monitoring of risk and compliance requirements.
Session 4:
Monday 30 November, 12.00pm – 2.30pm
Best Practice Policies and Procedures
Who is this session for?
Board/Committee Members, Managers and Coordinators, Staff and Volunteers
Session Overview:
This session provides templates and guidance on how to create, review and embed effective and compliant policies and procedures in community centres
Learn how to:
- Identify and monitor the legal and regulatory requirements relevant to your centre
- Develop a policy framework
- Develop best practice policies and procedures to guide compliant work practice
